What are the Benefits of a Mezzanines?
Installing a mezzanine floor is an effective way to maximise existing space. Ideal for growing firms that want to avoid investing in new premises, mezzanine floors offer additional storage or administrative space at an affordable cost. These structures can be designed with multiple tiers to optimise space in buildings with sufficient height.
We design every mezzanine to meet your specific needs and requirements by offering configuration options such as handrails, staircases, racking staircase access, ladders, decking, shelving, goods lifts, and pallet safety gates to suit all your needs. Additionally, fire-rated ceilings, fascia panels, and column cladding can be fitted to meet building regulations. At Stormor Systems, we ensure compliance with fire protection and floor loading criteria, offering a full local authority application service for legal compliance.
Our expertise allows us to design and install mezzanine flooring systems tailored to your requirements, including single and double tiers at varying floor heights. Whether for manufacturing, warehousing, cold storage, or other production needs, our floors are constructed to meet fire regulations and British Standard structural steel codes. Minimal disruption occurs during installation, as the floors are pre-made off-site.
What can they be used for?
Storage
Mezzanine floors are an excellent solution for companies looking to maximise their storage space. By utilising the vertical space in a warehouse or factory, you are able to increase your storage capacity without having to expand your premises. Mezzanine floors are also customisable and can be designed to fit the specific needs of your company, making them a versatile and cost-effective storage solution.
Office
Mezzanine floors are a great way to maximise the space in an office. They provide additional square footage without the need for a larger building or relocation. This can save your company money and increase productivity by allowing for more employees or equipment in the same space.
Retail
Mezzanines are a perfect addition to retail spaces as they provide additional floor space without the need for costly renovations or expansions. They can be used to showcase additional products, create storage space, or even provide a separate area for offices or customer service.
Industrial
Mezzanines are an excellent option for industrial spaces since they not only provide additional floor space but are also fully customisable and can be adapted to meet specific requirements. They are made from high-quality materials and are therefore durable in a busy, high-usage environment.
Warehouse
Mezzanines offer a practical solution for warehouses that face space constraints. With the need to store large amounts of inventory, mezzanines provide an efficient way to add extra storage space without the need for costly building expansions or relocation.
Garage and Showroom
Mezzanines offer an ideal solution for garages and showrooms by providing extra floor space. They can be conveniently installed above the existing floor space, enabling car dealerships and garages to optimise their use of vertical space. Additionally, mezzanines provide an excellent opportunity to display vehicles and create a distinctive shopping experience for customers.

Mezzanine Design and Installation
At Stormor Systems, we understand that every business has unique needs when it comes to creating additional space. That's why we start by conducting an onsite survey of your location to get a better understanding of your space requirements, and additionally discuss your specific needs for the space. This allows us to create a bespoke mezzanine that is custom-designed to ensure the best possible use of your space.
Once we have a clear understanding of your requirements, CAD technology is used to map out your mezzanine. This allows us to add any additional features you may want, such as pallet gates, staircases, and any extra health and safety requirements. We ensure that we comply with all fire safety regulations, loading requirements, and British Standard structural steel codes.
We understand that navigating building and fire safety regulations can be a daunting task. That's why we handle all building regulation applications on your behalf and ensure our mezzanine builds comply with all fire safety regulations. This ensures that the process is as smooth and stress-free as possible for you.
When it comes to installation, we understand that you want to minimise disruption to your daily operations. That's why we pre-make all of our mezzanine floors off-site, allowing us to install them quickly and with minimal disruption. We take every precaution to ensure the safety of you and your employees during the installation process.

Handrails
Edge protection is mandatory for all mezzanine floors to comply with health and safety regulations.
Staircases
We offer staircases fit for any need, from industrial to office mezzanines, our staircases are both functional and stylish.
Pallet Gates
Investing in a pallet gate is essential to ensure maximum safety while transferring pallets between floors.
Decking
The appearance and functionality of your mezzanine can be significantly influenced by selecting the appropriate decking. Stormor Systems offers a wide range of decking options to fit any need or requirement of your space.
Mezzanine Guards
The WRG Mezz Guard is a safety feature installed on the edge of a mezzanine floor. It combines a handrail and mesh and can reach up to 2m in height. Its purpose is to protect individuals on the mezzanine level and prevent any objects from falling off and causing harm to those below. It can withstand high impact side load.
Building Regulations and Permission for Mezzanines
Due to the fact that mezzanine floors are built within the current structure of a building, they tend to have little effect on the overall structure and most commonly do not require planning permission.
When is Planning Permission needed?
1. Mezzanines over 200m²
Commercial Mezzanines that have a floor space over this size will require planning permission due to health and safety, as well as the need for potential alterations to the building to accommodate this build.
2. Building Structure
If the mezzanine floor is an essential part of the building's structure, you may need to obtain planning permission, especially if external alterations are needed to the building such as additional fire exits or windows.
If these cases seem likely for your project, planning permission can sometimes be handled entirely by us. If not, we can guide you step by step through the whole process. Please get in contact with us to discuss your project and gain an understanding of whether planning permission is needed.
Is Building Regulation Approval needed?
All mezzanine floor builds require Building Regulation Approval to comply with fire safety and accessibility regulations.
This involves submitting a project plan and building details, including external fire exits and structural integrity calculations, to the local council (among other documents). Stormor Systems can handle this process for you, compiling all necessary documents and following through until approval is granted.
While approval typically takes five weeks, work can begin as early as five days after building regulation submission; however, this process is done at your own risk prior to official approval.
Another important aspect of Building Regulation Approvals is fire safety regulations, which are discussed below.
Fire Regulation
All mezzanine floors must have some level of fire safety and resistance, including easy accessibility in and out of the building.
Alongside this standard level of fire safety, additional measures must be taken if your mezzanine or meets any of the following criteria:
1. The mezzanine exceeds 50% of the space that it is installed in, and exceeds 20m in length or width
2. The mezzanine floor is larger than 400m²
3. More than three people will be on the mezzanine at any one time
4. The mezzanine floor is not single tier and also is not going to be used for just storage.
In all cases above, Stormor Systems will comply with all fire safety regulations, making sure all codes and laws are met. We also ensure we meet loading standards, and British standard steel structural codes.
Therefore, all building regulations and safety requirements can be managed by us on your behalf. Moreover, fire safety equipment needed can be supplied and fitted by us as well, meaning all aspects of legalities for your project can be completed as smoothly and stress-free by us.
